Testing

Congratulations on your finished GBIKE 1! Before you head out for real, you should do a few simple tests to make sure everything works as it should.

Before the first test ride​

Static check (with the bike stationary)​

  1. Turn on the ignition. Check that the ignition switch voltmeter shows battery voltage (should be about 70 to 84 V depending on charge).

  2. Test the throttle. Lift the rear wheel off the ground and gently twist or press the throttle. The wheel should start spinning. Release the throttle, and the wheel should stop accelerating.

  3. Test the brakes. Squeeze both brake levers. They should feel firm and provide good resistance.

  4. Listen. When the motor is spinning, it should sound smooth, without scraping or grinding noises.

Safety warning

NEVER keep hands, clothing, or other objects near the wheel when testing with the throttle. The motor is powerful!

First test ride​

Choose a safe place​

  • A small enclosed area or a yard is perfect
  • Make sure you have plenty of room to brake

Start carefully​

  1. Start gently. Use only a little throttle at first. Feel how the bike responds.

  2. Test the brakes at low speed. Check that both brakes work well before you increase speed.

  3. Feel for vibrations. Shaking or unusual noise can mean something is loose.

  4. Test the gears. Check that all gears work and that the chain does not skip.

After the test ride​

Check tightness​

After the first ride (and after the first 5 to 10 rides), you should check:

  • Wheel nuts: Still properly tightened?
  • Torque arms: Are the hose clamps sitting firmly?
  • Brake disc screws: Still tight?
  • Handlebar-mounted components: Throttle, shifter, etc.

Check the brakes​

  • Do the brakes work as well as before?
  • Does the brake lever feel just as firm?
  • Do you hear any unusual noise when braking?
