Maintenance
With a little regular maintenance, your GBIKE 1 will last a long time and perform at its best. Here we go through what you should check and how often.
Regular checks
Before every ride (quick check)
- Tire pressure: Press the tire, pump it up if it feels soft
- Brakes: Squeeze the levers, they should feel firm
- Battery: Enough charge for the ride?
Every week (or every 10 rides)
- Wheel nuts: Check tightness
- Torque arms: Are the hose clamps sitting firmly?
- Cables: Any loose cables? Any damage?
- Chain: Does it need lubrication?
Every month
- Brake disc: Clean and undamaged?
- Brake pads: Enough material left?
- Spokes: Are they all intact and reasonably evenly tensioned?
- Battery contacts: Clean and undamaged?
Cleaning
The bike in general
- Wipe down with a damp towel
- Avoid water directly on the motor, controls, battery, and other electrical components
The motor
- Wipe the outside with a damp cloth
- Never spray water directly on the motor
- Hub motors are relatively water-resistant but not waterproof
The controller
- Keep dry
- Wipe with a dry cloth
- Check that the connector covers are in place
The battery
- Wipe with a dry cloth
- Keep the contacts clean
- Never charge a wet battery
Chain and drivetrain
Lubricating the chain
- Clean the chain with a cloth
- Apply chain oil to each link
- Wipe off excess oil
- Do this every 1 to 2 weeks with regular use
Gears
- Check that the gears shift smoothly
- Adjust cable tension if needed
- Clean dirt and grit from the rear derailleur
Battery care
Charging
- Charge after every ride. Lithium-ion batteries do best when kept charged, meaning not empty.
- Do not charge to 100% if you plan to store it for a long time. 60 to 80% is ideal for long-term storage.
- Charge at room temperature. Avoid charging in extreme cold or heat.
Storage
- Store the battery in a cool, dry place
- Avoid temperatures below 0 C and above 40 C
- If you will not use the bike for a long time, charge the battery every 2 to 3 months to 60 to 80%
Warning
Battery safety
- Use only the included charger
- Never charge a damaged battery
- Never charge unattended overnight
- If the battery smells strange, becomes unusually hot, or swells, stop using it immediately and contact LiVerkstaden
Brakes
Check the brake pads
- Look at the pads, they should have at least 1 mm of material left
- Worn pads give weaker braking and can damage the disc
- Replace pads in good time
The brake disc
- Should be clean and free from oil or grease
- If the disc becomes bent, straighten it or replace it
- Clean with brake disc cleaner (alcohol-based)
Hydraulic brakes
- Check that the levers do not pull too far in (a sign of air or too little fluid)
- Bleeding and fluid replacement should be done by a bike shop if you are unsure
Tires
- Check wear. Worn tires provide less grip.
- Check air pressure. The right pressure gives better range and ride feel.
- Inspect for damage. Cracks, bulges, or embedded objects.
Winter storage
If you do not plan to use your GBIKE 1 during the winter:
- Clean the bike thoroughly
- Charge the battery to 60 to 80% and remove it
- Store the battery indoors at room temperature
- Charge the battery every 2 to 3 months
- Store the bike in a dry place, for example a garage or storage room
Maintenance tools
Keep these at home for easy maintenance:
- Bike pump with pressure gauge
- 21 mm wrenches
- Hex key set
- Chain oil
- Clean cloths
- Degreaser (for the chain)
When should you seek help?
Contact a bike shop or Gbike support if:
- The motor sounds abnormal or runs unevenly
- The battery shows abnormal behavior
- You need to bleed hydraulic brakes
- You suspect damage to the frame or critical components
